BOCA RATON, Fla. - Kristen Thoms, Florida Atlantic University's lone senior, closed out a hard-fought match 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 to clinch the Owls' victory, Sunday afternoon. FAU's 4-2 win over the University of North Florida improves the Owls' dual match record to 2-4 on the season.

Each of FAU's six contests thus far have been versus in-state opponents, including two ranked in the nation's top 20. Both Owl victories clinched with Thoms' wins.

"Today's win was so important after such a tough schedule to open the season," said Marcy Cava, FAU's head coach. "UNF should be very proud as the match was incredibly even and tough. Today our girls' showed how coachable they are. Yesterday, we had a very important mental lesson. Each girl took the lesson seriously and implemented it in tennis game right away. Tennis is so mental and that was the difference today."

UNF took the doubles point winning matches at No. 1 and No. 3. FAU's No. 2 duo of Martina Kudelova and May Kimhi won easily, 6-0
Natalie Kallmunzerova was the first to notch a point for FAU with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3
Kudelova would follow at the top spot 6-4, 6-2 and May Kimhi would put the Owls up 3-1 with a straight-set win at No. 5
UNF took the No. 4 singles spot and the No. 2 spot was locked into a three-set battle that would ultimately end unfinished duo to Thoms' tenacity.
