MIAMI – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team (5-22, 2-12 C-USA) found themselves down 20 points in the third quarter to FIU (5-22, 2-12 C-USA) on Saturday afternoon, but senior
Jamaria Williams nearly single-handedly brought the Owls back to within four points. Ultimately, FAU fell to FIU, 56-49.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
- Glenisha Harkless opened the scoring in the game with an open 3-pointer less than a minute into the game. The Panthers responded with a 5-0 run to take the lead. Juliette Gauthier added five points in the quarter and Abby Voss and Ra'Kyra Gabriel each scored, but the Owls ended the period down, 16-13
- FIU opened the second quarter by scoring the first seven points. Gabriel ended the Panthers run with a layup at 7:55. FIU was able to push its lead even further by outscoring the Owls, 12-5, for the remainder of the period
- Both teams struggled to score in the third quarter, but FIU took an 11-9 edge
- Williams took over in the fourth quarter, going on a personal 9-0 run to open the period. The senior scored 16 points and had four steals in the final frame. The Owls drew within four points, but weren't able to complete the comeback
GAME NOTES
- Williams finished the game with 20 points, five steals, four rebounds and an assist. Her five steals were a new career high
- Gauthier finished with nine points and six rebounds
- Amber Gaston tied her career high in rebounds with 10 in the contest
- Janae Thomas reset her career high with nine rebounds
