Florida Atlantic University women's tennis opened a 13-game homestand Friday morning by hosting FIU. The nearby conference rival downed the Owls 4-1.
The match marked the first competition for the young team in 20 days after opening the season with three matches on the road and two versus top 20 ranked teams.
"I'm disappointed because I'm competitive, but FIU played better tennis than us today," said Marcy Cava, FAU's head tennis coach. "It's as simple as that."
Notables:
- The Owls (1-4) dropped the doubles point after falling at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, both by narrow margins
- Singles began with FAU's JaCara Gillis took the first singles match in straight sets 6-3, 6-0, but the Owls would fall at positions 4, 2, 3
