2020 Softball Schedule
Â
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University has unveiled the 2020 FAU softball schedule, as announced on Monday. The Owls will host two large tournaments and travel to two inside the state of Florida this season. FAU will also play at home for 26 of its 53 regular season games.
Â
The Owls are set to commence the season at the annual FAU "First Pitch" Classic held from Feb. 8-10. FAU will play its opening game on Friday at 6 p.m. against Wisconsin, who made a trip to the NCAA Tournament last season. The Owls will also play Indiana State, Northern Illinois and Purdue twice on opening weekend.
Â
On the next weekend, the Owls will travel to Orlando, Florida for the UCF Knight's Classic held from Feb. 14-16. The Owls are set to square off against Penn State, Villanova, Iowa State and UCF.
Â
FAU will be back home the following weekend to host the annual FAU "Strikeout Cancer Tournament," with four different schools coming to town. On Friday, Feb. 21, the Owls will play Hofstra (4:45 p.m.) and North Florida (7 p.m.) and will wrap up the weekend on that Saturday by facing Illinois State (4:45 p.m.) and LIU Brooklyn (7 p.m.).
Â
Tournament season will wrap up at the Spring Games from Feb. 28-March 1. The tournament will take place in Madeira Beach, Florida and will feature 12 other teams. The Owls will face Seton Hall, Miami (OH), Iowa, Saint Bonaventure and South Alabama during tournament play.
Â
Conference USA play will be a little different this season, as the league has gotten rid of the Saturday doubleheaders. This year, the Owls will play every home C-USA series on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. The Owls will begin conference play at Charlotte this season from March 6-8, and will be back at home to face Southern Miss on March 13-15.
Â
The Owls will play a handful of non-conference games, including a home and away doubleheader series with Florida Gulf Coast (March 10 in Fort Myers and April 1 at home), a three-game series at home against Marist College (March 20-21) and a trip up North to face Jacksonville (April 14) for one game and North Florida (April 15) for a doubleheader.
Â
The C-USA Championships will be hosted at Western Kentucky this season from May 6-9. Softball is going after its 13th conference championship and 12th NCAA Tournament appearance in Joan Joyce's 26th year at the helm.
