FAIRFAX, Va. – The Florida Atlantic University swimming and diving team had a historical showing at the 2019 Patriot Invitational. Both the men's and women's teams captured second place, their best finishes at the invite in program history. The women's team finished with 738.50 points to sit behind UNCW, who took first (788.50 points). On the men's side, the team inched their way up to 772.50 points to follow Drexel (850 points).
Rateb Hussein also broke another school record, this time in the 200 fly to break an eight-year-old record previously held by Mikolaj Czarnecki.

Women
- The distance crew got the third night of finals started, as Spence Atkins claimed another first place finish, this time in the 1650 free (16:38.31). Kirsten Hobson followed in fifth (17:24.85)
- Mackenzie Brown took sixth in the 100 free A-final (52.26)
- In the 200 Breast, Haley O'Meara claimed a new personal best time of 2:20.01 to claim fifth. Shae Clifton followed her in the A-final with eighth (2:24.30)
- Atkins captured her third first place title of the weekend, capping off her individual events with a top finish in the 200 fly (1:59.82). Molly Jordan also made a spot on the proverbial medal stand, claiming third (2:03.13)
- Also in the 200 fly A-final, Danica Garbett (2:06.08) and Ashlyn Hunt (2:06.12) finished seventh and eighth, respectively
- The women's team of Brown, Fatimah Westbrook, Dominique Sauger and Atkins took second in the 400 free relay (3:33.40)
Men
- Will Smith claimed second in the 1650 free with a time of 15:40.70, and was followed by Clay Riemenschneider in third (15:41.49) and Josh Fountain in fourth (15:44.57)
- Braedan Leach tallied third in the 200 back with a time of 1:48.10. Also in the A-final, Reilly Maguire captured sixth (1:50.43)
- Hussein touched the wall second in the 100 free finals with a new lifetime best time of 44.34. Connor Smoak claimed seventh with a new lifetime best time (45.21)
- Adan Diaz had a breakout race in the 200 Breast, claiming his first gold finish as an Owl with a time of 2:00.40.
- Hussein has had nothing short of a historical weekend at the Patriot Invitational and went out on a high note, breaking his third school record, second individually. This time, Hussein broke the school record in 200 fly (1:45.74), while also marking a first place finish and taking down a meet record that was previously held for eight years
