BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team continued a streak of recent academic success, as the program has now been recognized each of the last four straight seasons with the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award.
The team recorded a 3.39 cumulative GPA during the last academic year. Among Conference USA Schools, only Charlotte, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, Rice and UTEP can also claim a current streak of four or more years (see the full list of all 2018-19 awardees
HERE). For the FAU women, that's now six years making this list (2011, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019).
"We are very excited to be recognized by United Soccer Coaches for our young ladies' work in the classroom," said head coach
Patrick Baker. "Many people watch us play throughout the season, but few see and realize how hard our players work in the classroom year-round. The award reflects the true dedication of a student-athlete and we are pleased to have achieved this recognition again for our women's soccer program. We are very proud of our players' academic accomplishments, and 2018-2019 was a great year on and off the pitch."
The defending C-USA co-regular season champion Owls are off to an even better start this season, currently 9-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in league play. The next chance to see the squad at home is this upcoming Friday in the second game of a men's and women's doubleheader at FAU Soccer Stadium. The women will host UTSA following the completion of the men vs. Keiser, which starts at 5:30 p.m.
