BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team (4-6-1, 0-4-0) will receive a visit from the Thundering Herd of Marshall (10-1-3, 3-0-1) in a Conference USA matchup Saturday night. First touch is set for 7 p.m. and admission is free to all fans.
About the Owls
Ivan Mykhailenko continues to lead the Owls' offensive attack after scoring his sixth goal of the season last Sunday night at South Carolina. Not only is Mykhailenko the team's leading goal scorer, but the Kyiv, Ukraine native takes the charge in points (15), shots (21) and game-winning goals (2). Alex Alexis leads the team in assists with six on the season, while racking up 13 shots. Striker Joe O'Sullivan has taken 12 of his 13 shots on the season in the last three matchups, while Alonso Coello Camarero and Edgardo Obregon have taken 12 apiece.
Adam O'Sullivan has been holding it down in the backfield, playing in 967 minutes with nine out of 11 games being played without a substitution. Coello follows right behind him with 912 minutes and four matches being played in full.
Daniel Ragoo has seen majority of time at keeper as of late, getting the start in the last three games. The senior has tallied 30 saves and a 2.11 Goals Against Average. Hagay Jalon has gotten the start in five games this season, racking up 22 saves for a 2.15 GAA. Both keepers have been credited with a shutout this season.
The Owls are outshooting their opponents in the first period, 61-58, but lag in the second as they are being outshot, 77-74. The team has continued to endure a tough schedule, as seven of their 11 opponents have been ranked or received votes in the U.S. Soccer Coaches poll at one time this season.
About the Thundering Herd
Coming in at No. 15 in the latest top-25 poll, the Herd have gathered a lot of national attention as of late. Marshall took a trip to the West Coast last weekend, where they tallied wins at Loyola Marymount (4-1) and San Diego State (5-1). Milo Yosef received C-USA Offensive Player of the Week nods after scoring four goals and assisted on another in those two wins. His performances also helped him get recognized as the College Soccer News National Player of the Week. Keeper Paulo Pita became the third consecutive Marshall player to be recognized with C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors, as he registered five saves, while collecting his 10th win of the season.
Yosef has been the Herd's biggest impact player on the offensive side of the ball, leading the team in goals (10), points (22) and shots (39), which also tops C-USA. Jamil Roberts and Pedro Dolabella follow him with 17 and 16 points, apiece. Pita has been holding it down at the net, playing in all 1,320 minutes. The redshirt senior has tallied 41 saves and a 0.82 GAA.
Match History
The matchup between these two teams has been quite even, as FAU holds a 4-4-1 record against the Herd. FAU suffered a tough 5-1 loss at Marshall last season, but the year prior, FAU had a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory on the Owls' senior night. In the past six matchups as C-USA opponents, both teams are tied with seven goals each in a series that has gone into overtime three of those times.
