Men's Soccer Travels to Stetson for Midweek Matchup

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team (4-5) will face Stetson (7-5-1) on the road Wednesday at 6 p.m. for a Sunshine State showdown. The Owls are looking for their first road win of the season.

About the Owls

The Owls are coming off a 5-2 victory over Keiser last Friday night. FAU's five goals became the most scored by the team since 2013. Jose Alastuey scored his second goal of the season in the game, while Ivan Mykhailenko captured his fifth. David Schwartzman scored two goals in the game and now has five points on the season, while Alvaro Rodriguez's goal and assist were both firsts in 2019 for the sophomore. The defense did not allow the Seahawks to take a shot in the second period of the game, outshooting them 26-4 overall.

Mykhailenko has led the way for the Owls on the offensive side of the ball this season with five goals, 13 points, 17 shots and a .294 shooting percentage. The Kyiv, Ukraine native is second in Conference USA in points, goals per game (0.56) and points per game (1.44). Alonso Coello Camarero is second on the team in shots taken with 12, with the sophomore capturing his first assist of the season last Friday night. Alex Alexis, who is second in the conference for assists per game (0.75) is leading the Owls with six assists, setting up the offense for great opportunities to score.

The net has been shared by Hagay Jalon and Daniel Ragoo this season. Jalon has played in 418 minutes, accounting for 22 saves and a 2.15 Goals Against Average. Ragoo got the start last Friday night to elevate his minutes to 396. The senior has recorded 17 saves on the season and a 2.73 Goals Against Average.

The Owls have continued to get off to hot starts in games, outshooting their opponents in the first period, 51-42, but being outshot in the second period, 63-60. FAU has had one of its toughest schedules in program history with seven out of their nine opponents having been ranked or received votes at one point in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. In the first release of the NCAA Men's Soccer RPI, FAU came in at No. 47.

About the Hatters

Stetson, who rings in at No. 93 in the RPI rankings, is currently riding high in the ASUN Conference with three wins, a draw and no losses. The Hatters are coming off two straight victories, including a win over conference opponent Lipscomb to help them clinch a spot in next month's ASUN Tournament. Stetson has been outshooting its' opponents in both periods, 70-66 in the first and 98-65 in the second. They have captured seven of their 13 total team goals in the second period.

Chris DeGance and William Suaut are currently tied as the team leader in points with six apiece. DeGance has three of the team's 13 goals, while Gabriel Diniz is leading the team with four assists. Lute Lillo-Portero has seen all 1,190 minutes at net, accounting for 38 saves. The freshman has allowed 13 goals this season to account for a 0.98 Goals Against Average.
