CHICAGO, Ill. -Â The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team won both of its matches at the DePaul Invitational on Friday. FAU swept UConn (25-13, 25-23, 25-18) in its first match before outlasting Purdue Fort Wayne in four sets (28-30, 25-17, 25-19, 25-17) in the second match. FAU improved to 5-3 on the season with the wins.

The Owls got out to a quick start and never looked back, as they held a double-digit lead for most of the first set, eventually winning 25-13. The second set started in similar fashion, as
Kori Varney served FAU out to a 6-0 advantage. The Huskies rallied and even took a four-point edge before an 11-5 Owls' run gave them the 25-23 victory and a 2-0 cushion. Set number three was nip and tuck in the early going, but FAU built a 14-10 cushion. UConn whittled the lead down to two, 16-14, but four straight Owl points foiled any hopes of a Husky comeback.
Sigourney Kame's 14
th kill of the match ended the frame 25-18, clinching the FAU sweep.

- Kame tied with teammate Massiel Matos and UConn's Caylee Parker with a match high 14 kills.
- Matos added 10 digs for her second double-double of the season.
- Ivone Martinez dished out 43 assists.

Sydney Riggs served FAU out to a 6-0 lead in the second set and the margin remained at least five points for the rest of the frame, as the Owls tied the match 1-1. Another fast start for FAU resulted in a 9-2 cushion in the early going of set three, a deficit that proved insurmountable for Purdue Fort Wayne, and behind four
Massiel Matos kills, the Owls won the frame 25-19 and took a two sets to one lead. FAU couldn't pull away from the Mastodons right out of the gate in the fourth set, but a Matos serving run helped the Owls scored seven points in a row to go up 15-7. Purdue Fort Wayne never got closer than six the rest of the way as FAU took the set and the match. Â
Notables
- Matos and Kame once tied for the match high with 16 kills each.
- Ivone Martinez was credited with 47 assists to pass Genesis Viera for fourth place in school history in career assists. Martinez now has 2,518 assists in her FAU career. Martinez also tallied 10 digs for the 26th double-double as an Owl.
- Abbi Reid had nine kills and added three block assists to pass Iana Andonova for eighth place in FAU history with 205 for her career.
