BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer squad will begin their longest consecutive home stretch of the season this weekend, with two matches – one concluding non-conference play (Thursday at 7 p.m. versus Oral Roberts) and another to ramp up Conference USA action with the team's 2018 home opener league (Sunday hosting UAB at 1 p.m.) – kicking off a four-match homestand.
Owls' Week in Review
The Owls (3-6-0, 1-0-0 C-USA) picked up a big three points on the road in their league lidlifter last Friday, beating Marshall in Huntington, West Virginia, 2-1.
Sammy Vitols earned C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honors with a goal and an almost-assist on the game-winner, credited as an own goal by the Thundering Herd defense.
Owls' Week in Preview
Oral Roberts (5-6-0) won four of their first five matches and then lost five in a row before winning on Sunday, 3-2 over Missouri State in overtime. Junior forward Jordan Langebartels leads the Golden Eagles both in goals (five) and assists (three), and recorded the helper on the game-winner last time out.
UAB (4-3-1, 1-0-0 C-USA) has not been beaten in their last four contests, with three wins and a tie. That includes a 1-0 decision Sunday at home against Louisiana Tech to, like the Owls, go 1-0 in C-USA play. The winner came just 1:16 in as the game's only score. The team's leading goal scorer on the season is Kamilah Mustafa with five, and the Blazers also feature Preseason C-USA goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty, who led the league in goals against average and save percentage in 2017.
Opponent History
The Owls and Golden Eagles have never met. In the last six years, the Owls and Blazers have tangled seven times, and FAU has gained at least a point in each result, holding a 5-0-2 all-time edge. After a tie in last year's regular season matchup in Boca Raton, 1-1, the Owls eliminated UAB in the first round of the C-USA Championship in seeded upset (No. 6 seed over the No. 3 seed), 1-0.
Asta Arnadottir contributed the golden goal 3:53 into the first overtime.
After This
Two more home matches are ahead for the Owls next weekend as well, both in league play, hosting Louisiana Tech on Friday, Sept. 28, and Southern Miss two days later on Sunday. Following that, there's just two more at home for the remainder of the regular season. Tickets are available by visiting
