BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team picked up its first two victories of 2018 in impressive fashion, sweeping both St. Peter's and The Citadel on day one of the FAU Invitational on Friday.
Match 1 vs. St. Peter's

The Owls held a 6-5 lead in the first set, then used a 5-1 run to seize control of the action. FAU also scored the final eight points to win going away. After a fast start in the second set, the Owls were never seriously challenged, taking the frame 25-10. That momentum continued into the third set, as behind four kills from
Massiel Matos, FAU won 25-14 to complete the sweep.

FAU was tied with the Bulldogs in the early going, but forced nine attack errors on its way to a 25-15 set one win. The Citadel was able to get its offensive woes under control in the second set, but it didn't matter. The Owls hit .364 in the frame, including seven kills from Matos to win 25-15 and take a 2-0 lead. Set number three saw the Bulldogs remain close until the midway point, but a 5-0 run behind the serving of
Ivone Martinez helped put the match away.

- Massiel Matos had 16 kills and 12 digs to lead all players in both categories. It also marks her first career double-double.
