BOCA RATON, Fla. - On the eve of the Gainesville Regional, Florida Atlantic University junior shortstop Tyler Frank earned a national honor, chosen by Collegiate Baseball as a Third Team All-American.
Frank finished out the regular season and conference tournament play batting .315 with 13 home runs and 34 RBI. He is second among all Conference USA hitters in runs scored (64), doubles (19) and walks (51), fourth in on-base percentage (.459) and sixth in both home runs (13) and slugging (.586).
Recently also, the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year continues to climb draft prospect lists. Baseball America has him at No. 67 and MLB.com 73rd. The 2018 MLB Draft starts next Monday, June 4, with 78 picks going on that first day. Should he be selected and sign, he would leave FAU second on the program's all-time list in walks with 119, and has a shot at the single-season record, standing at 51, with 57 being the high-water mark.
Frank joined Nick Sandlin and Luke Reynolds as Collegiate Baseball honorees. The Southern Miss duo was named First Team on Thursday.
The Owls play Jacksonville at 6:30 p.m. Friday, following Florida and Columbia in the opener at 1 p.m. in Gainesville.
