Owls Beat No. 39 Middle Tennessee, Advance to Championship Match

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team avenged a loss to No. 39 Middle Tennessee, beating the Blue Raiders 4-1 in the semifinals of the conference USA Championship Tournament.
"I am so proud of this team," FAU Head Coach Ricardo Gonzalez said. "They competed so hard for each other and played with a lot of heart and passion. They had good positive energy throughout the entire match which I thought was key to keep the momentum on our side. We did a phenomenal job staying cool and keeping our composure in the big points. Our TEAM won the "player of the day" award. Amazing team effort."
- FAU will make its first appearance in the C-USA Championship Match Sunday at Noon ET against No. 33 Old Dominion
- Arthur Stefani and Anthony Schohn topped Jan Porteset and Gian Issa 6-4 to open doubles play
- Freshman duo Jason Legall and Ignacio Garcia clinched the point with their 7-6(7-2) win over Gonzalo Morell and Miguel Negre
- Senior Remi Chancerel overpowered Morello 6-2, 6-2 to start singles play
- Garcia then fell 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot to Issa, cutting the FAU lead to 2-1
- Senior Ignacio Jiminez beat Luis Morillo Diaz 6-0, 6-4 in No. 6 singles
- Legall then sealed the victory for the Owls with his 6-4, 7-6(7-5) win over Tom Moonen
