#20 Beach Volleyball Splits Two Friday Matches

TAVARES, Fla. - The 20th-ranked Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team split its two matches at the Stetson/Hickory Point Lake Bash on Friday, getting nipped by College of Charleston 3-2 in its first match before sweeping Houston Baptist 5-0 in the second match.
Match 1 vs. College Of Charleston
The match was closely contested, with three of the five scoring courts requiring three sets. The freshman tandem of Erica Brok and Mackenzie Morris continued their winning ways, this time on court four, taking the third set 15-11, for their 11th win of the season. Amanda Silva and Kaila Dorish outlasted the Cougars' duo at no. 5 15-13 in the third set. Nicole Navarro and Nicole Grant were swept on court three. Gabrielle Dischler and Jessalyn Kinlaw dropped a pair of narrow sets on court one, 22-20 and 21-18. On court two, Carly Scarbrough and Brittany Pellitteri overcame a first loss to win the second set 21-17, but fell in the final frame 15-8. Julia Lewkowicz and Ashlan Cunningham lost in three sets on the exhibition court.

Match 2 vs. Houston Baptist
Silva and Dorish won their match at no. 5 in short order, 21-14, 21-9 to go 2-0 on the day. Grant and Navarro got back on track with a decisive 21-14, 21-16 victory on court four. Morris and Brok extended their winning streak to 11 with a comeback win at no. 3, the highest they have played in the lineup all season. Kinlaw and Dischler eked out a close first set at no. 1, then won the second set 21-14. Julia Lewkowicz and Carly Scarbrough teamed up for the first time all season and won a dramatic third set to complete the sweep for FAU.
