GAME NOTES
Thursday will be the eighth meeting between FAU (12-13, 6-8 C-USA) and Marshall (9-19, 3-12). The two teams met earlier in the season when the Owls earned a 79-59 win against the Thundering Herd in Boca Raton in the first conference game of the year.
FAU is tied for the fourth best turnaround from the 2016-17 season to the 2017-18 season in NCAA Division I. Rutgers and Nebraska are tied for the best turnaround with 13 more wins this season. Jim Jabir has the second best turnaround this season as a coach in their first season with their program. Denver's head coach Jim Turgeon has improved the Pioneers with 10 more wins than last season in his first season.
FAU has led Conference USA in rebounds per game almost the entire season. The Owls are currently averaging 42.5 per game, which is the 25th highest mark in the nation. The Owls also are first in the league in defensive boards, averaging 29 per game, which is 16th highest in the country. FAU is the only team in Conference USA with three players in the top 15 in the league in rebounds per game with Sasha Cedeño (8.0 rpg), Ra'Kyra Gabriel (6.7 rpg) and Raven Doyle (6.4 rpg).
The Owls are averaging 70.4 points per game this season, which is third in the league and the highest for an FAU team since the 2013-14 season. Danneal Ford is the active leading scorer for the Owls, averaging 13.4 points per game.
FAU features two players who have been dishing out dimes this season. Danneal Ford has maintained an average of 4.6 assists per game, fourth highest in Conference USA and Malia Kency has an average of 3.2 per game and an assist/turnover ratio of 1.71, which is fifth highest in the league.
LAST TIME OUT
Last week, the Owls picked up two much needed wins to keep their conference tournament hopes alive. On Friday, FAU topped Southern Miss, 89-74, behind a career-high 27 points from Danneal Ford. The graduating class propelled the Owls to a 67-63 win over rival FIU on Senior Day.
SCOUTING MARSHALL
After struggling early, Marshall has won two of its last four games. The Thundering Herd topped UTEP and North Texas recently, but with only three conference wins, have been eliminated from participation in the Conference USA Championship.
Marshall is led in scoring by Shayna Gore, who is the second leading scorer in the league. She's averaging 19.5 points per game on the season.
