BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University softball coach
Joan Joyce has announced the signing of six student-athletes to their National Letters of Intent. Sara Berthiaume, Madison Carlock, Riley Ennis, Caryssa Orland, Ashlee Patterson and Rachel Tarpley will join the Owls for the 2020 season.

Sara Berthiaume
Position: Outfield
Hometown: Coconut Creek, Fla.
High School: Coral Springs Charter School
Club/Travel Team: Florida Storm
Expected Major: Health science
Fun Fact: Was the only girl on her football team when she played as a child

Berthiaume comes to FAU after winning four softball state championships, with three coming in class 5A and one from class 4A. She has been named to the Miami Herald All-County Team (First Team in 2017 and 2018 and Second Team in 2016), the All-Broward County Sun Sentinel Team (First Team in 2018, Second Team in 2017 and Honorable Mention in 2016) and the FHSAAÂ All-State Team (First Team in 2018 and Second Team in 2017). Off the softball field, Berthiaume is a part of the Cambridge program, as well as the National Honors Society and Key Club.

Madison Carlock
Position: Outfield
Hometown: Flower Mound, Texas
High School: Flower Mound High School
Club/Travel Team: American Freedom Express 18U National
Expected Major: Social work
Fun Fact: Has traveled the circumference of the earth in a year (24,901 miles)

Carlock is entering her senior season in a Jaguar uniform after capturing Softball Factory 2019 Under Armour Pre-Season All-American honors. In addition to earning a nod on FloSoftball 2018 "Hot 300 2019's," given to the top players in her recruiting class, Carlock claimed the Triple Crown All-Star and All-American awards in 2017. The Texas native has shown she is a leader off the field, receiving Academic All-District honors (2016-19) and serving on the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (chapter president), National Honor Society, Science Honor Society and English Honor Society.

Riley Ennis
Position: Infield/Utility
Hometown: Estero, Fla.
High School: Estero High School
Club/Travel Team: Santa Fe Inferno - Lovett
Expected Major: Criminology with a minor in psychology
Fun Fact: Met the Jonas Brothers when she was 7 years old and Kevin Jonas kissed her on the cheek (recorded as the best day of her life)

Ennis is making her way across the state after recording notable seasons on the field, leading her to receive MVP of her softball team after her freshman year and the Softball Leadership Award following her sophomore and junior seasons. She has been named to the All-Area First Team after each season in uniform for the Wildcats and has captured the Rotary Club Award for Academic Excellence.

Caryssa Orland
Position: Outfield
Hometown: Orlando, Fla.
High School: Olympia High School
Club/Travel Team: Florida Storm
Expected Major: Business
Fun Fact: Loves to travel

Orland will be coming to FAU after posting successful seasons as a varsity member of the Olympia High School softball team. Along with being honored to the 2017 All-Metro Team, Orland captured MVP honors over the last two seasons and the Sixth Man Award. Off the field, Orland is a peer counselor.

"I really loved the campus, coaching staff and how the beach is so close. I just knew when I walked on campus that I wanted this to be my home for the next four years, no doubt. Also, I get to play two years with my sister and three years with some of my former travel softball teammates."

Ashlee Patterson
Position: Outfield
Hometown: Wauchula, Fla.
High School: Hardee Senior High
Club/Travel Team: Florida Impact – Feldman/Watson
Expected Major: Business management

Patterson will be joining FAU after dominant seasons in high school and club. She claimed Class 5A District 17 Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and All-State First Team all in 2016. Patterson also is acknowledged as the top 10 in her graduating class.

"I chose FAU because it had been my dream school since junior high. I love the coaching staff and the atmosphere."

"She is fast, and we play a very fast game. Ashlee will be able to help add some of that top-level speed to our lineup."

Rachel Tarpley
Position: Catcher
Hometown: Murfreesboro, Tenn.
High School: Blackman High School
Club/Travel Team: Firecrackers TN-Golliver
Expected Major: Special education

Tarpley will be joining FAU after superb seasons behind the plate for her high school and club teams. The catcher has captured All-District 7AAA honors following her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. Tarpley also received the 2017-18 Blackman High School Best Offensive Player award.
