Ivone Martinez Named C-USA Setter of the Year

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University senior Ivone Martinez was named Conference USA Setter of the Year on Thursday. The announcement was made in advance of the Conference USA Tournament, which begins on Friday. Martinez was named First Team All-Conference USA earlier this week. She is the first player in program history to be named Conference Setter of the Year and the first volleyball player to earn an individual superlative since 2005.
Martinez leads the nation in assists per set (12.60) for the second straight year. She has seven double-doubles on the season and 31 for her career. Her 1,222 helpers so far this season are the fourth-best single season total in FAU history and she is second in program history with 3,424 career assists.
"We are very proud of the leader Ivone has become. She is a great person, teammate and setter," said FAU Head Volleyball Coach Fernanda Nelson. "She has worked very hard for the past four years to make our team stronger. I feel fortunate to be her coach and have Ivone as part of the FAU family."
The Owls are the No. 4 seed in the C-USA Championship and will play North Texas at 2 p.m. Eastern on Friday, Nov. 16. The game will air on ESPN+. In-game updates will be available at Twitter.com/FAUVolleyball.
