Volleyball's Matos Named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University volleyball outside hitter Massiel Matos has been named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. It is the second time this season that Matos has won the award.

Matos had an outstanding final weekend of the regular season. The junior notched 12 kills in FAU's five-set win over Rice on Friday, giving FAU its first 20-win season since 2005. In the Owls' match against Middle Tennessee on Sunday, she tallied a match-high 20 kills and added 13 digs for her 12th double-double of the season. The win extended FAU's school-record home winning streak to 15. For the weekend, Matos averaged 3.56 kills and 2.0 digs per set, while hitting .273.

The Owls will be the No. 4 seed for the upcoming C-USA Championship in Huntington, West Virginia, and will play fifth-seeded North Texas in their first round match at 2 p.m. Eastern on Friday, Nov. 16.
