Sigourney Kame each posted 14 kills in the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team's four-set win (25-17, 19-25, 25-15, 25-20) over FIU on Sunday. With the victory, the Owls tied the school record for longest home winning streak at 13. FAU is now 18-5 on the year and 8-2 in Conference USA.
Key Plays
Alex Cardona served the Owls out to a 6-1 lead to start the first set. FIU (14-10, 6-4) got the margin down to three at 19-16, but FAU responded with a 6-1 run to take the set.
Cardona once again gave FAU an early cushion with her serving in the second set, but the Panthers answered with a 12-4 rally to take a 15-10 edge. The Owls threatened with three straight points of their own, but another FIU run foiled any hopes of completing the comeback, as the Panthers won 25-19 to level the match at a set each.
Set number three was tied 6-6 when the Owls scored four points in a row to spark what finished as an 11-3 spurt to take control of the frame. A Reid kill finished the stanza 25-15 and gave FAU a two sets to one advantage.
It was FIU's turn to start fast in the fourth set, as they quickly built a 7-3 cushion. The Owls managed to tie the score in short order and the two teams went back and forth during the middle of the set. After a FIU kill tied the score at 14-14, FAU reeled off six of the next eight points to take a 20-16 lead. The Panthers scored back-to-back points to cut the margin in half, but FAU slammed the door shut with a 5-2 closing run.
