BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team (2-8-0, 1-3-0 C-USA) fell in an overtime thriller to UAB (5-6-2, 2-3-1 C-USA) at FAU Soccer Stadium on Saturday night.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
- The Owls were the aggressors early in the match, outshooting UAB 7-5 in the first half.
- The Blazers struck first in the 33rd minute off of a header.
- FAU was able to even the score on a goal from Alex Alexis in the 62nd minute. Gonzalo Pena made his way into the box, drawing UAB defenders. He crossed the ball over to Alexis, who was able to send it past the Blazer keeper.
- Neither team was able to find the back of the net again in regulation or the first overtime, so the match headed to a second golden goal extra period. In the 116th minute, UAB won the game on a header goal.
GAME NOTES
- It was the second goal of the season for Alex Alexis. His other goal came in an overtime win against South Carolina earlier in the season.
- Gonzalo Pena Barrasus' assist was his first of the season. Pena is the team's leading point-earner with five on the season.
- Saturday's match was the third overtime match of the season for the Owls. FAU owns a 2-1 record in matches going into extra time.
- Alexis led the Owls on the offensive front with three shots on the night. Alvaro Rodriguez and Elias Arntsen each registered two shots on the night.
