BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team continued its hot streak with a pair of wins at the FAU Invitational on Friday, defeating Stetson in four sets (25-21, 22-25, 25-11, 25-12), then sweeping Savannah State (25-18, 25-12, 25-15) in the nightcap.
Match 1 vs. Stetson
Key Plays
After storming out to a 13-5 lead in the first set, the Owls (8-2) had to fend off a tenacious Hatter squad that rallied to tie the game at 15. FAU scored the next three points, but Stetson pulled even at 19-19. From there, the Owls closed on a 6-1 run to take the set. Stetson served its way to a six-point lead at the midway point of set number two and held on for a 25-22 win to tie the match. Once the Owls emerged from the locker room after intermission, they quickly seized momentum in both the third and fourth sets, building big leads in both frames and maintaining control from wire to wire.

Match 2 vs. Savannah State
Key Plays
Continuing their drive from earlier in the day, the Owls sped out to a big early lead in the first frame and took a comfortable 25-18 win. Set number two was much closer at the outset, as sloppy play on both sides of the net kept either team from building a large lead early on. FAU finally managed to find a decent rhythm and a long serving run by Dena Tekavec helped the Owls triumph 25-12. Kori Varney's serving was the key to FAU's big lead early in the third set as the Tigers never got closer than five points the rest of the way.

"It was a long week with a lot of traveling and I think that showed today, but we were able to push through and win both matches. We looked much better in the second game. So we have to rest tonight and come back strong tomorrow morning for our last match before we start conference play."
