Owls Bested by NDSU in Four

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team concluded its regular season tournament schedule with a four-set loss (16-25, 25-18, 28-26, 25-20) to North Dakota State on Saturday at the FAU Invitational.
Key Plays
The first set was even at six, when the Owls (8-3) went on a 6-1 run to take a 12-7 lead. NDSU never got closer than four points the rest of the way and FAU took the first set 25-16. Strong Bison serving allowed them to take a sizable edge and tie the match with a comfortable 25-18 second set win. Set number three was the most competitive of the day with 13 ties and six lead changes. The final tie came at 26 each when NDSU put down back-to-back kills to take the frame and a 2-1 lead. The Bison got out to another fast start in the fourth set, taking a quick five-point lead. FAU managed to trim the deficit to 22-20 late in the set, but three straight NDSU points ended the match.
Notables
- Abbi Reid (14) and Sigourney Kame (10) both notched double-digit kills for FAU.
- As a team, the Owls posted 91 digs, with four different players reaching double figures. Alex Cardona led the way with a career-high 25.
- Ivone Martinez tallied 47 assists and 11 digs for her third double-double of the season.
- The loss comes nearly a year to the day of the Owls' last home loss, a five-set defeat to UTRGV on Sept. 17, 2016. FAU had won nine home matches in a row.
