Baseball's Stephen Kerr Signs Contract with Los Angeles Angels

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Stephen Kerr, a four-year starting second baseman for Florida Atlantic University baseball team, is the latest Owl in the pros, as he signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Angels over the weekend.
Kerr wrapped his FAU stint as a .289 career hitter, and as the program's all-time leader in games started, at-bats and fielding assists. He finished third on FAU's all-time list in walks, fifth in hits, runs scored and stolen bases, and seventh in doubles.
"It still doesn't feel real," said Kerr. "I haven't played, so once I do, I will believe it. (But) it was one of the best feelings ever to see myself in an Angels' jersey."
The Margate, Florida native saved his best for last as the Owls' representative on the 2017 Conference USA All-Tournament Team, batting .353 in the team's four games in Biloxi, Mississippi, including the first two-home run game of his collegiate career in the finale versus Rice. He also ended his career on a seven-game hitting streak, while reaching base in each of his last 16 games. Overall in 2017, he batted .269 with six home runs and 34 RBI (fifth on the team), while leading the Owls with 11 stolen bases.
Kerr hasn't been assigned yet, but is in Arizona, where the AZL Angels (the organization's Rookie League team) play. He should soon join Alex House, who recently made his debut with the Tri-City ValleyCats of the Houston Astros organization, as members of the Class of 2017 to further their playing career on the professional level.
