CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University track and field team took part in Saturday's Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, which included over 10 top-10 showings in the meet and a handful of top all-time program finishes.
Notables:
- Jamika Glades, in her debut meet with the Owls, had the squad's top finish: a 59.50 in the 400 meter hurdles, placing her third overall and second for NCAA runners. The time was fourth-fastest ever on the FAU women's outdoors list
- Sherline Valentin posted a sixth-place showing in the 400 meters (56.65), with teammate Berneta Boldin 10th
- Of the collegians in the 800 meter run, Mikaela Jonsson was eighth (2:14.24), just milliseconds ahead of Frida Thorsås (2:14.31). In the same race, Carydaliz Fontanez set a PR (2:17.49)
- Thorsås was also seventh in the javelin, throwing to a distance of 41.73 meters
- Liz Wellman ran a 4:44.42 in the 1,500 for ninth place Saturday, and Sophia Clark and Johanna Freeman set PR's
- Crystal McDougle was ninth (11.89, a big-time PR and eight-fastest spot all-time), and Deja Jones 11th, in the 100 meter dash
- In the 100 hurdles, McDougle got another huge PR, a time of 14.09, moving up to the fourth-fastest slot in FAU history
- The 4x400 `A' squad of Glades, Anne-Catherine Wasser, Boldin and Valentin was eighth overall (3:46.07)
- All four men competing in the 3,000 meters set new bests: Lachlan Shiver (9:04.04) and Ross Rabalais (9:05.99) were ninth and 10th in the race and eighth and are now 10th all-time in the event for FAU runners. Jonathan Werble (9:11.34) and John Marting (9:12.72) have the next fastest times on the program list

"We made some nice progress today, under tough windy conditions and against some very tough competition," said Head Coach Alex Smolka. "Florida, Virginia, Kansas State and UConn are all nationally-ranked programs. We will learn from the experience we gained today and use it in the weeks to come."
What's Next:
The team takes part in the three-day Florida Relays in Gaineville, running next Thursday, March 30 through Saturday, April 1. Concurrently, some members of the squad head to Daytona Beach on Friday only for the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic.
