Track and Field Outdoor Season Commences Friday

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University track and field team will take the short trip south Friday and Saturday to kick off the 2017 outdoor track campaign, competing in the University of Miami's two-day Hurricane Invitational at Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables.
Friday night will be made up exclusively of distance running, with FAU men and women competing in the 5,000 meters. The meet picks back up again at noon on Saturday with field events and then in the afternoon with sprints, hurdles and relays, as well as a few mid-distance races. "After three weeks of training since our C-USA Indoor Championship, we're excited for the outdoor season to start," said Head Coach Alex Smolka. "We are using this weekend to get used to racing again, and are looking forward to some good results."
"We are looking forward to the outdoor season to begin," said Associate Head Coach Willie Randolph. "This weekend we are focused on trying to execute our races, and progressing with better times as the season moves along toward championships and postseason time. First, we need to take one meet at a time."
