Catching up with Women's Soccer Head Coach Patrick Baker

BOCA RATON, Fla. - FAU Athletics caught up with women's soccer Head Coach Patrick Baker to put a lid on the 2017 season and look ahead towards 2018, his fifth year atop the program.
Highlights from 2017:
- The Owls finished the season with an 11-8-2 record, marking their third straight winning season, a plateau that hadn't been reached since 2004-06
- With a 5-4-1 mark in Conference USA play, they are one of just four league teams to have a better-than-.500 record in each of the last three years
- The team hosted the C-USA Championship and advanced to the semifinal round. It is also the third consecutive year they've qualified for the league's postseason tournament
- Four team members earned All-C-USA honors: Ebba Blomqvist (First Team), Asta Arnadottir (Second Team), Elisha Holmes (Third Team) and Ashlyn Kitterman (All-Freshman)
- Blomqvist and Arnadottir were also recognized as United Soccer Coaches All-South Region, named to the Second Team and Third Team, respectively
- Off the pitch, the Owls earned the United Soccer Coaches' College Team Academic Award, and Alex Maxson was voted to the C-USA All-Academic Second Team
- The team said goodbye to seven seniors: Arnadottir, Madison Caldwell, Lucy Carter, Kelly Harris, Sammy Lujan, Alex Mastrobuono and Maddie Pung. The four four-year members of the class - Arnadottir, Caldwell, Mastrobuono and Pung - won 40 matches in their collegiate career
What's Next:
- With those seven players departing, 22 remain from the 2017 roster, including a new crop of five seniors: Marli Batiste, Blomqvist, Mary Hasler, Amanda Karabin and Jennifer Ocampo
- Three returnees were chosen recently as team captains for the 2018 season, in Batiste, Ocampo and rising junior Elisha Holmes
- Six members of the team last season scored three goals or more, and five are set to return: Blomqvist (five), Pernille Velta (four), and the trio of Holmes, Mary O'Hara and Miracle Porter (three each)
- All told, 23 of the team's 28 goals were scored by returnees, for 82 percent. Sixteen potential returning Owls played in a dozen matches or more
- Ocampo played every single second of the season in goal and helped the team to eight shutouts
- Baker is on the cusp of two coaching milestones: his third victory would mark No. 50 in his FAU tenure, and eight wins would push him to 300 in his 28th season as a collegiate head coach
- The team's spring schedule is tentatively set to start in mid-February
