BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Phillip Hitpass made six saves and Thomas Gallitz placed a pair of shots on point, but the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss to South Carolina in Conference USA play Saturday.
The Owls (1-3-1, 0-1 C-USA) held their own throughout the first half with Hitpass making three saves against seven Gamecock shots.
Gallitz took the first shot of the second half, but SC's William Pyle was able to wrangle it in to keep the score tied.
In the 68th minute, SC's Danny Deakin took a nice feed from Bjorn Gudjonsson and snuck the ball by Hitpass for what would become the game-winning goal.
Gallitz had another chance in the 82nd minute, but his shot rattled off the upper 90 on FAU's final shot attempt of the night.
The Owls will travel to Fort Myers to take on FGCU on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
