BOCA RATON, Fla. â€" Florida Atlantic University pitcher Devon Carr signed a contract with the MLB's Houston Astros Wednesday, becoming the sixth Owl to be offered a professional contract this year.
"I am so incredibly thankful to the Houston Astros organization for giving me this opportunity of a lifetime," Carr said. "I'd like to thank all my coaches, teammates, and friends who have guided and supported me throughout this journey. I'd also like to thank God for giving me such an amazing family that has never stopped believing in me. Owls up and go Astros!"
Carr, a senior from Sarasota, Fla, led FAU and Conference USA in relief appearances in his final season as an Owl. The southpaw earned five wins in 2016 with a 2.29 ERA over 35.1 innings on the hill. Carr did not allow a run in his first 14 innings and ended his career with three shutout innings against Stetson en route to a win in the NCAA Regional.
"I couldn't be happier for Devon," FAU Head Coach John McCormack said. "He deserves this chance to continue his career and he will make the most of it. It will be fun to follow his progress."
Carr joins CJ Chatham, David McKay, Colyn O'Connell, Robbie Coursel and Billy Endris as Owls who have the opportunity to play professionally this summer.
