SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - The Florida Atlantic University softball team set a school record by winning its 17th game in a row with a doubleheader sweep of UTSA on Saturday. The Owls are now 46-7 on the season and 21-2 in C-USA play.
Game 1 Notables
Kylee Hanson threw a complete game for her 25th win. Hanson struck out 13 in the victory and tied Rose Gressley for fourth place in school history with 51 career wins.
Carnesha Thompson had two hits and scored twice.
Emily Lochten hit her 13th homerun of the season, which is second in school history for most in a season.
Melissa Martinez hit her fifth homerun of the year.
Alex Miller had an RBI single for the Owls.
Key Plays
The Owls scored three runs in the top of the first, two coming on Melissa Martinez's homerun, which also scored Carnesha Thompson. Lochten's homer led off the top of the fourth inning, before Alex Miller's RBI single and a Roadrunner error allowed two more runs to score. Melissa Martinez singled in Thompson in the top of the fifth for FAU's final run of the game. UTSA led off the bottom of the seventh with a homerun and had two more batters reach base, but a popup and strikeout ended the game.
Game 2 Notables
Amanda Wilson threw a complete game for her 14th win of the season.
Delaney Rickey went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
Melissa Martinez went 2-for-3 and hit her second homerun of the day.
The win was the 17th in a row for the Owls, setting a school record.
Key Plays
Delaney Rickey singled to lead off the game and later scored on a Roadrunner error. The score remained 1-0 until the sixth inning when Melissa Martinez drove in Carnesha Thompson with a two-run homerun over the fence in left. UTSA scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and had the winning run on base when a flyout to center ended the frame.

On the win: "The thing about this team is they keep fighting. When UTSA scored those two runs in the bottom of the seventh, I bet that if we had played an eighth inning, we would have scored twice. It's just the nature of this team."
