BOCA RATON, Fla. -
The Florida Atlantic University Department of Athletics recently hosted its 2016 FAU Golf Tournament presented by GA Telesis at Addison Reserve Country Club in Delray Beach, FL. This year's tournament broke previous fundraising numbers by raising more than $90,000, making it the most successful tournament in FAU History.
"This has become a sought after annual event," said Pat Chun, FAU's vice president and director of athletics. "My sincere thanks to the tournament sponsors, the volunteers and the staff who are inspired by our 500 student-athletes and who are dedicated to help meet our scholarship needs."
The proceeds from the event benefit FAU student-athletes through the Owl Scholarship Fund (OSF). The OSF is committed to generating support to ensure a nationally competitive athletics program as a component of the educational mission of FAU. The goal of the OSF is to provide annual funding for athletics grant-in-aid and scholarships for more than 500 student-athletes competing in 19 varsity sports. The OSF strives to embrace and engage the most dedicated Owl fans within FAU.
The sold out event was sponsored by south Florida business leaders GA Telesis, Dell, South Florida Ford, Florida Peninsula Insurance Company, Sports Field Management, the FAU MBA Sports Management Program and 33 other university supporters.
"This event is about the young men and women that are FAU Student-Athletes" said Abdol Moabery, a FAU Board of Trustee member and the President and Chief Executive Officer for GA Telesis "As a supporter of the program, it's an honor to see these young leaders achieve success both on the field of play and more importantly in the classroom. The fact that the FAU student-athletes achieved their highest G.P.A. in school history this year, shows the University's upward trajectory."
