BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University softball team captured the first two games of the UNLV Invitational with a 7-2 win over Southern Utah University and a 3-1 victory over tournament host UNLV. With the sweep the Owls moved to 15-1 on the year.

Game 1 Notables

Tatum Buckley earned the complete-game victory in the circle and improved to 4-0 on the year.
Four Owls recorded multiple hits. Alex Miller was 3-for-4 on the day with an RBI and a run scored. Madisyn Palmer and Lauren Whitt were 2-for-4. While lead-off hitter Delaney Rickey was 2-for-5 and Carnesha Thompson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Game Changer
The Owls score first with a run in the bottom of the third. SUU scored two in the top of the fifth to take its first and only lead of the game. Carnesha Thompson lead-off the inning followed by Emily Lochten who belted a homer over the left field wall to give the Owls the only runs that they would need in the game. FAU added three more in the sixth and the rally would start with a double by Thommpson.

Game 2 Notables

Catcher Alex Miller recorded two of the team's eight hits and six other Owls added hits.
Kylee Hanson tossed seven innings of three-hit ball and held UNLV to one unearned run. Hanson struck out five and issued no walks while she remained perfect on the season at 7-0.

Game Changer
The Owls' saw defense miscues lead to a run in the bottom of the second to tournament host UNLV. Emily Lochten stepped to the plate with one out and hit a homer to left center, her second homer of the day, to even the score at one. Melissa Martinez doubled down the left line and later scored on a Sarah Bencivenga singled. She later scored on a Miller single.

"We played very well today," said Joan Joyce, FAU's head softball coach. "We hit the ball well, Tatum (Buckley) and Kylee (Hanson) threw well."
