BOCA RATON, Fla. - (Feb. 19, 2016) - A pair of wins at the Strike Out Cancer Tournament helped the Florida Atlantic University softball team match the best start in program history. An 8-0, five-inning win over NIU and a 3-1, eight-inning win over UConn gave the Owls a 7-0 record for the first time since 1997.

Game 1 Notables
Kylee Hanson gave up just two hits and struck out 12 for her third win of the season.
Christina Martinez went 2-for-2 and scored a run.
Carnesha Thompson drove in two runs and scored twice.
Emily Lochten hit an RBI triple and scored twice, including a steal of home.

Game Changer

The Owls used four runs and two NIU errors to scored five runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back on their way to an 8-0, mercy rule victory.

Game 2 Notables
Kylee Hanson pitched two perfect innings in relief for her third win of the season.
Carnesha Thompson hit her second homerun of the season.
Emily Lochten drove in two runs in the top of the eighth.

Game Changer

After UConn tied the game in the bottom of the sixth to ultimately force extra innings, Lochten drove in Thompson and Madisyn Palmer with a two-run single in the top of the eighth to provide the final margin.
