The Florida Atlantic University women's golf team concluded day one of the FGCU Eagle Invitational tied for 11th place with Kadi Pallastrone coming in as the Owls top finisher tied for 13th.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at the Stoneybrook Golf Club in Ft. Myers, Fla. The course is a par 72 with a total yardage of 6,135. The 15 teams participating include Mercer, Toledo, Xavier, Elon, Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Ball State, McNeese State, FGCU, Stephen F. Austin, Drake, Western Illinois, Southern Illinois, and USC Upstate.
Sophomore Pallastrone was FAU's top finisher after 18 holes, coming in tied for 12th after shooting 4-over 76. Pallastrone recorded two birdies in the first round on the par four third hole, and the par three fifth hole.
Next in line is Heather Netti, who is competing individually for FAU is tied for 26th after shooting six-over 78 in round one. Sophomore Tai Barber is tied for 37th place after shooting seven-over 79 with a birdie on the par three fifth hole.
Daniella Castaneda is tied for 57th after shooting an 81 with her solo birdie also coming on the par three fifth hole. Senior and team captain Christina Langer finished the first round tied for 64th, as freshman Emily Faulkner rounded out the group tied for 69th after shooting an 84.
"The team had a slow start today and struggled early on but managed to salvage their rounds with better 2nd nines to keep us within striking distance. We are headed in the right direction and I expect our team total will be much better tomorrow." Said Head Coach Kathy Baker-Guadagnino.
The team total was 318, while the tournament leader Mercer finished day one with a score of 301. Round two of the FGCU Eagle Invitational will kick off on Saturday, Feb 13 at 8 a.m. The event will conclude with the final 18 holes on Sunday, Feb. 14.
