Boca Raton, Fla. -
Women's soccer's Sammy Rowland and football's Devin Singletary earn the title of FAU Players of the Week after both leading their teams to milestone performances in conference play last week.
Rowland potentially had her best offensive outings this season at the Conference USA Championship Tournament last week. The senior saw two goals hit their mark to secure the Owls' first C-USA postseason win in history over LA Tech to advance to the semifinal. Rowland put all four of her attempts on goal, putting the icing on the cake with just 33 seconds left. Against No. 1 seed North Texas, Rowland put FAU on the board first in the 21st minute, again leading the team with four shots on goal in the contest. She also picked up an assist to extend the Owls' lead to 2-0. For her efforts, Rowland was named to the C-USA All-Tournament Team, ending the season with a team-high eight goals.
Singletary broke two FAU football individual records as he helped lead the Owls to a 42-25 win at Rice on Saturday. Singletary's 252 rushing yards more than doubled his career high and broke Alfred Morris' record of 198 against UAB on November 26, 2011. The freshman had nine carries of 10 or more yards and racked up three touchdowns, including the final score of the game off a 66-yard run. His 252 yards are the 12th most by any FBS player this season. Singletary also broke the program's all-purpose yardage mark with 283, breaking Anthony Jackson's 15-year-old mark of 231 against Marist on Sept. 22, 2001.
The returning women's soccer players and staff will prepare for spring practice ahead of next season, as well as the opportunity to host the 2017 Conference USA Championship. Football returns home to host UTEP on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. For tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS or visit www.FAUSports.com. Live video will be available on www.FAUSports.TV and ESPN West Palm 106.3 will have the radio broadcast.
