2017 Softball Schedule
BOCA RATON, Fla. - (November 11, 2016) - The Florida Atlantic Univsity athletic department has released the FAU softball team's 2017 schedule. Coming off a record-setting year that ended with their second consecutive NCAA Regional appearance, the Owls' schedule includes nine teams who made it to the NCAA Tournament last year.
FAU will start the year with the FAU Kick-Off Classic, hosting North Florida, North Carolina State, Bethune-Cookman and Michigan State. The tournament runs from Thursday, Feb. 9 through Sunday, Feb. 12.
The Owls will host their 11th annual Strike Out Cancer tournament on Friday, Feb. 17 through Sunday, Feb. 19, with Tulsa, Syracuse, Toledo, St. John's and Savannah State rounding out the field.
The FAU Invitational will be held Friday, Feb. 24 through Sunday, Feb. 26 as Florida A&M, Memphis, UConn and SEC members Kentucky and Arkansas come to Boca Raton. Both FAMU and UK advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season.
The toughest tournament of the season will take place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from March 3-5, when FAU plays in the LSU Purple and Gold Classic. The Owls will play three teams (Illinois, LSU, Minnesota) that made last season's NCAA Tournament in addition to Illinois State.
FAU will conclude its tournament schedule with the Parents' Weekend Tournament. The Owls play LIU Brooklyn, Ball State, Rutgers, Illinois, Fairfield and Fordham in the event, which runs from Thursday, March 9 through Sunday, March 12.
The Owls begin defense of their Conference USA regular season title at Middle Tennessee on Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19. The Owls will host Charlotte for their first C-USA home games, on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26.
In-state rival UCF will come to Boca Raton on Wednesday, April 5. The final regular season series for the Owls will be at UTEP on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7, before the Owls attempt to repeat as C-USA Tournament Champions at the 2017 Conference USA Softball Tournament, which runs from Wednesday, May 10 through Saturday, May 13, hosted by Southern Miss.
