CHARLOTTE, N. C. - A stout defensive effort, coupled with a well-rounded offensive attack powered the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team to a straight set (25-17, 25-20, 25-19) win over Charlotte on Sunday. FAU improves to 7-10 overall and 2-1 in C-USA play.

Key Plays
FAU jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first set and Charlotte never got closer than two points the rest of the way. After three straight 49er points cut the lead to 13-10, FAU went on an 11-4 run to help clinch the set. Set number two was close through the early going. However, Alex Cardona had an extended serving run that built a 20-14 cushion for the Owls. Charlotte didn't go away easily though, and staved off two set points before a Reid kill gave FAU a 2-0 advantage. It was the 49ers' turn to start quickly in the third frame and they led 8-5 before Viera served the Owls out to a 12-8 lead. The margin ballooned to as large as nine before a modest Charlotte rally trimmed the deficit.
