Volleyball Triumphs in Comeback Win Over Rice

BOCA RATON, Fla. - (October 11, 2016) - A fifth set victory capped a dramatic come from behind win for the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team as they defeated Rice (14-25, 26-24, 18-25, 25-18, 15-10) in a matinee on Tuesday.
Notables
- The victory was the first five set win of the season for FAU, having gone 0-5 so far during the year.
- Maja Ristic had a season-high 21 kills. She added 15 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.
- Abbi Reid posted a career best 15 kills and her seventh double-digit kill match of the year.
- Gabrielle Dixon also registered a career high, putting down 13 kills on the afternoon.
- Genesis Viera tallied a season best 52 assists and also recorded nine digs.
- Nathalie Rosado led FAU with 17 digs. Alex Cardona and Kori Varney had 13 digs each, a career high for both players.
Key Plays
Rice built an early 10-3 lead in the first set and FAU never got closer than five points, falling 25-14. Rice led 24-21 late in set number two and seemed poised to take a commanding 2-0 lead, but FAU staved off three set points during a 5-0 run, capped by back-to-back Dixon kills, to tie the match at one set each. After the intermission, Rice got out to another early advantage and won set three 25-18. The fourth set was the most tightly contested of the match, with 11 ties and three lead changes. The final tie came at 18-18, when FAU reeled off the final seven points of the frame to force a decisive fifth set. In the fifth set, FAU was able to take a 4-1 edge early on, and a Viera serving run late in the frame pushed the lead to 12-5. Rice cut the lead to four, but another Dixon kill closed the door on any hopes of a rally.
