NASHVILLE, Tenn. â€" The Owl duo of Brittney Brown and Kristina Rankovic helped lead the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team to a 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-23) win over Lipscomb at the Lipscomb Invitational on Saturday.
Brown and Rankovic each finished with 10 kills. Brown added six total blocks, while Rankovic tallied five. Reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Week Gabriela Martin had eight kills and five total blocks.
In the first set, neither team was able to pull away from the other. There were eight ties in the frame. The final tie came at 24 before a Lipscomb service error and attack error ended the set. Maja Ristic had four kills in the set.
FAU (5-2) led the second set 13-9, but the Bison rallied to tie the score at 17. The score would be knotted again at 18, 19 and 20. Genesis Viera served out the set, with Martin providing three kills down the stretch. Lipscomb blitzed their way to an 11-3 lead in the third set, but the Owls eventually tracked down the Bison. Lipscomb led 21-18 when Raveen Golston served FAU to a 23-21 lead. After a Lipscomb kill, Brown and Rankovic combined on a block to give the Owls three straight match points. The Bison held off one match point, but a Brown kill clinched the match for FAU.
Brown was named to the all-tournament team.
The Owls will travel to Jacksonville for next weekend's Courtyard Mayo Classic.
