BOCA RATON, Fla. â€" Kristina Rankovic's third double-double of the season helped the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team sweep Bethune-Cookman (25-18, 25-22, 25-17) at the Courtyard Mayo Classic on Friday.
FAU (6-2) had to come from behind in the first set, but the Owls served their way out in front of the Wildcats. A BCU (2-7) service error gave the Owls a 24-15 lead, but it took four tries before the Owls finally won the set.
The second set was the most closely contested set of the match, featuring six ties and four lead changes. The sixth and final tie of the frame came at 22, before FAU took three straight points to go up two sets to none.
The Owls took control early in set number three and built a lead as large as 10 points, eventually winning 25-17. Rankovic led FAU with 11 kills and added 12 digs.
FAU will conclude action at Courtyard Mayo Classic by playing Campbell and host UNF at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively on Saturday. The match versus UNF will air on ESPN3.com.
