The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Tallahassee to compete in the FSU Cross Country Invitational on Friday, Oct. 2nd. The men will participate in the 8k, which begins at 7:40 a.m. and the women will follow with the 5k beginning at 8:20 a.m.
Teams competing: The invitational will include 20 men's and 22 women's teams. The Owls will be competing against Division 1 programs like Florida, Miami, UCF, Stetson, USF, Jacksonville, and Florida A&M.
Previous meet: At the 26th Annual Mountain Dew Invitational, the men's team took fifth place out of 11 teams and the women finished seventh overall. Senior Michael Vidal was FAU men's top finisher in the 8k, coming in eighth with a time of 25:39.39. Following him was freshman Conor Fitzgerald finished next for the men at 40th place with a final time of 27:38.14. For the women's team Liz Wellman was FAU's top finisher, coming in 27th place with a final time of 18:51.19. Following close behind was Clare Brinkman, who finished in 36th with a time of 19:05.23.
History: Only the men's team took part in the FSU Invitational in 2014. The Owls finished in ninth out of 11 Division I teams. Then-Senior Josh Peterson was FAU's top finisher in the 2014 8k, coming in 35th with a final time of 27:23.30. In 2007 and 2008 the men and women both competed in the invitational. The men finished sixth overall in 2007 led by Kyle Butler who finished 11th in 27:20.57. The women finished fourth in the team competition and were led by then- sophomore Friederike Feil, who finished 7th overall. In 2008, the men finished fifth with Taylor Reeves coming in second place in the 8k with a final time of 25:43.07. Reeves still holds the record for the second fastest time in FAU history in this event. The women's team placed seventh overall, they had five runners set personal records including Friederike Feil winning the women's 5K in 17:43.53, running unattached.
