Owls Lose to Ohio

FORT MYERS, Fla. â€" The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team concluded its tournament schedule with a four-set (25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20) loss to Ohio at the FGCU Invitational on Friday.
The Owls (8-4) trailed 12-7 in the first set, before rallying to tie the score at 15. The two teams went back and forth for the next several points. The score was tied at 18 when the Bobcats (8-3) closed on a 7-2 run to take the set.
The second set was a back and forth affair that featured 12 ties and four lead changes. The final tie came at 21 before Ohio went on a 4-1 run to take the set. Brittney Brown had four kills in the set.
Kristina Rankovic's serving gave the Owls an early 7-1 lead in the third set before the Bobcats went on a 13-4 to take a 14-11 edge. Momentum shifted back and forth several times, leaving the score tied at 23. A Bobcat attack error and a block by Brown and Ivone Martinez gave the Owls a 25-23 third set win. Ohio's fast start led to a 15-7 advantage in set number four. The Owls were unable to cut the margin to less than four the rest of the way, losing 25-20. Maja Ristic had 13 kills and 13 digs for her second straight double-double and fifth of the year.
FAU will open Conference USA play on Sunday, Sept. 20 when they play at rival FIU. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start and links to live stats and live video will be available at fausports.com.
