BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team swept its first two matches of the season at the FAU Invitational on Friday. It's the Owls' first 2-0 start since 2010.
FAU swept Bethune-Cookman (25-23, 25-18, 25-15) in their first match on Friday. The match was tightly contested throughout. In the first set, BCU trailed by as many as four in the frame before rallying to take a 21-20 lead. Senior Brittney Brown stepped up with three kills to help the Owls win the set 25-23. In set number two, FAU built an early four point lead, which it never relinquished. Set number three, was a close affair until a 6-2 Owl run jumpstarted what turned into a 10-point margin of victory.
FAU also defeated Stetson in straight sets (25-16, 25-18, 25-18). The Owls outhit the Hatters .402 to .186 in the win. Newcomer Maja Ristic led all players with 12 kills, while Brown added 10.
