On the final day of the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Sitia Martinez claimed victory in the 400 meter hurdles to become Florida Atlantic University's second outdoor champion.
Martinez, who held the top time in C-USA in the 400 meter hurdles going into the championship, finished the race in 59.78.
Another top finish came from the 4x100 meter relay team of Deja Jones, Martinez, Sherline Valentin, and Regina Wilkerson. The team took second place in 44.63, which broke the previous school record that they set at the Florida Relays in April.
In the 1500 meter final, Liz Wellman came in 10th in 4:50.72. Fellow freshman Amélie Svensson was the top finisher in the 5000 meter earning ninth with a time of 18:08.43.
After winning the heptathlon on Friday, freshman Frida Thorsås competed in the javelin and finished seventh with a distance of 38.01 meters.
FAU finished ninth overall with a total score of 40 while Western Kentucky came in first place with a total of 157. The Owls that qualify will head to the NCAA First Round in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 28-30.
