GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Kylee Hanson had another solid outing in the circle, as the Florida Atlantic University softball team lost to Hofstra in an NCAA Regional game 1-0 on Friday afternoon.
Hanson (17-5) went the distance, striking out eight with just two walks.
The Owls (37-18-1) loaded the bases in the third inning, but a nice stab by the third baseman ended the threat. In the fourth inning, Kiley Southall attempted to score on single to center, but was thrown out to keep the game scoreless. The following inning, Lindsey Shell was cut down while trying to score on a fielder's choice.
Hofstra (38-12-1) scored the only run on the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a hit by pitch, sacrifice bunt and base hit. FAU was retired in order in the top of the seventh to end the game. Shell went 2-for-4 in the loss, while six other Owls each had one hit.
FAU will meet the loser of the Florida/Florida A&M game in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday with the winner moving on to another elimination game at 6 p.m. All information on this weekend's Regional, including interactive brackets, can be found at the FAU Tournament Central page here.
