Florida Atlantic University softball's Kylee Hanson and baseball's Reily Monkman were named FAU Players of the Week after having dominant pitching performances over the weekend.
Hanson was dominant in her only appearance of the week on Saturday. She threw a complete game in the Owls' 9-0, five-inning win over Middle Tennessee. The sophomore struck out nine batters, walked only two and allowed just one hit in game. For the season, she has a team best 9-1 record with 84 strikeouts in just 69 innings pitched.
Monkman entered in relief for the Owls on Friday night and struck out nine of the first ten batters he faced and did not allow any batters to reach base as he earned his team-high fifth win of the season against conference opponent Middle Tennessee. He needed just 45 pitches and 34 strikes to more than double his previous career high of four strikeouts. Four of his nine K's were looking as the Owls retired each of the final 15 batters to remain undefeated in Conference USA play.
Softball will host UCF this Thursday, March 26 at 4 p.m. They will also face C-USA rival FIU at home starting with a double header on Saturday, March 28 at 6 p.m. Baseball will travel to San Antonio, Texas for a three-game series against C-USA's UTSA beginning on Friday, March 27 at 7 p.m. ET.
