CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team defeated Charlotte 5-1 on Sunday to wrap up a three-game sweep behind the five-inning shutout performance of Drew Jackson.

The Owls improved to 18-3 and a perfect 3-0 in league play in their opening Conference USA weekend.

Jackson earned his fourth victory of the year and dropped his ERA to 0.30 with his five-strikeout, two-hit performance. Stephen Kerr hit four consecutive singles to increase his average to .341 on the season. Brendon Sanger drove in a pair of runs and Ryan Miller scored twice.

Jackson did not allow a hit until the fourth, by which time the Owls held a 1-0 run after a Brett Lashley sacrifice fly plated Miller in the third.

The Owls tacked on two more in the fifth as Sanger hit a 2-RBI double to drive in Kerr and Lashley who each singled with two outs.

Charlotte (4-9, 0-6 C-USA) would get on the board in the sixth before FAU sealed the victory in the ninth.

Chatham, Miller and Kerr each singled to open the final frame and Lashley picked up another RBI on a sacrifice fly to increase the FAU lead to 5-1.

Bo Logan closed out the game in the ninth to record his third save of the season with a strikeout.
