BOCA RATON, Fla. - An off shooting night, combined with a big rebounding disadvantage contributed to the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team's 74-59 loss to UTSA on Saturday.
The game was close for the entire first half, with the biggest margin for either side being five points. Marquan Botley hit another buzzer beater to cut the Owls' (8-13, 1-9 C-USA) deficit to 30-28 at the halftime break.
The score was tied at 44 in the second half when the Roadrunners (12-10, 6-5), who had been taking advantage of their interior size all night, were able to get the Owls in significant foul trouble and got to the free throw line continuously. That, combined with an FAU scoring drought of nearly six minutes, allowed UTSA to seal the game. "Their bigs really hurt us on the inside," said FAU head coach Michael Curry.
UTSA had a 53-28 rebound advantage and held the Owls to just 32.3 percent shooting from the floor. Botley had 19 points to lead FAU, followed by Jackson Trapp (13) and Solomon Poole (10).
FAU will travel to Louisiana Tech on Thursday, Feb. 12. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. eastern. Ken Lavicka will have the call on FAUSports.com. All FAU games will be carried on ESPN West Palm 106.3, which has an APP for the Smart Phone platform.
