HUNTINGTON, W. V. - The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team erased significant deficits in each half, but ultimately fell to Marshall 79-61 on Saturday night.
The Owls (8-19, 1-15 C-USA) fell behind early when Marshall (11-18, 7-9) scored the first 12 points of the game. FAU cut the lead to three before the Thundering Herd went on a 7-0 run to push the lead back to double digits, 23-13. A 12-2 FAU run tied the game at 25 and the Owls tallied 10 unanswered points later in the half to take a 35-29 lead. Marshall trimmed the deficit to two, but Marquan Botley made a layup just before the buzzer to send FAU into the halftime locker room up 41-37.
The Thundering Herd went on another scoring spree to take a nine point advantage with just over nine minutes left. The Owls tied the game at 56 on a Solomon Poole three-pointer with 7:12 to go. However, from that point Marshall outscored FAU 23-7 down the stretch to win the game. Botley led the Owls with 18 points, while C. J. Turman had 12 points and six rebounds.
FAU will end its season with a two-game homestand, beginning on Thursday, March 5 versus UAB. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Live video of the game will be available through FAUSports.com. All FAU games will be carried on ESPN West Palm 106.3, which has an APP for the Smart Phone platform.
