BOCA RATON, Fla. - On the strength of its best start since 1998, the Florida Atlantic University softball team received votes in the most recent polls of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and ESPN/USA Softball.
The Owls are 13-1, including a 4-0 record in last weekend's FAU Invitational. FAU has now won 12 games in a row, including an 18-0 win over Florida A&M for Head Coach Joan Joyce's 800th career win. The winning streak is the team's longest since 2002.
Five FAU opponents are ranked at least one poll. This season the Owls will face #7/#7 LSU, #10/#9 Kentucky, #12/#12 Florida State and #17/#15 UCF. Kansas, who FAU has already faced, is ranked No. 25 in the ESPN poll, while Tulsa, who the Owls defeated earlier this season is receiving votes in both polls.
The Owls will make their first road trip of the season to the LSU Purple and Gold Challenge this weekend. FAU will play Stephen F. Austin in their first game of the weekend at 11 a.m. eastern on Friday, Feb. 27. Live stats will be available at fausports.com.
