MANHATTAN, Kan. â€" Despite a career-high performance by sophomore Nika Zyryanova, the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team suffered its worst loss of the season 102-59 at the hands of Kansas State on Sunday.
The Owls (5-2) were led by Kat Wright's 15 points and Zyryanova's career-best 14 points. Sophomore Melinda Myers led the Owls on the boards with a game-high seven rebounds.
The Wildcats (8-1) shot better than 60 percent for the majority of the game and went 58.3 percent beyond the arc with 14 three-pointers and seven blocked shots.
Wright and Ali Gorrell each made jumpers in the opening minutes to put FAU on top 4-2, but the lead was short-lived as the Wildcats retook the advantage just 3:20 in and never let up.
A 13-3 run late in the first quarter but KSU up by as many as 17 as the Wildcats scored 13 points off turnovers in the opening frame.
Following a second-quarter opening three-pointer by Wright, KSU crafted runs of 8-0 and 14-0 to go up 53-21 before Zyryanova and Wright cut the advantage to 54-25 at the half.
Zyryanova scored eight points in the third quarter, leading the Owls to shoot 46 percent, but the Wildcats made four threes in the period to 34 on a 6-0 run late.
KSU closed the game on an 11-0 run to hit the century mark on a three-pointer in the final seconds. FAU travels to take part in the Lady Griz Classic and will face host Montana on Dec. 19. Live audio is available on FAUSports.com.
